What would you say if I told you that boredom can boost your creativity? The first time I heard that, I didn’t really give it much thought. Then a friend sent me the link to video online aptly named “How boredom can lead to your most brilliant ideas.” I was intrigued. I clicked on the link. I listened for sixteen mind-blowing minutes.

All this time to sit around at home and…write. Right? (Picture me rolling my eyes…) Right. Loads of time to write – as my husband suddenly wants to purge the entire house and keeps coming up with projects for us both to do because he’s climbing the walls. As my children fight constantly because they are always, well…together.

The Plot Thickens

If you are not moved to tears as you pen the death of a character you love, or some other tragedy befalls him or her, how can you expect the reader to care enough to shed tears? Likewise, if everything that happens is expected, well…the reader will find the plot and characters predictable and boring.
